Freinholdi maja

In 1913, hotel London opened its doors to visitors. By mid-1920s the house shared rooms with a different kind of “guest house”, namely the local police station. The two had separate entryways. The main entry was for police matters with the tower entry leading to the second floor where guest apartments were located. By 1939 the hotel London was no longer, but the police station continued its operations in the house until 2015.

Since then, the house has been completely renovated and renamed after its location on Kreutzwaldi street, which in turn was named after Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald, writer and author of the Estonian epic poem. Situated right in the middle of a five-minute walk from Lake Tamula to Kannel Culture Centre, Freinholdi has opened its doors once again to welcome visitors near and far.

The house has had many faces throughout its more than a century of history. But one thing that has remained steadfast is the tower entry leading to the guest house. The very same tower entry has now become a centrepiece for the branding. With colours inspired from the newly renovated façade and signage mimicking carvings on doors, Freinholdi maja has a visual identity that is both modern and honours its history.
